P10 Full, SP2, W98Se

Hi,

get the following issue when trying to start P10 full.
(translated from German)

"PDXWIN32
This application will be closed due to an unvalid process.
Contact the manufacturer if the problem continues."

Under the 'Details'-button:
"PDXWIN32 causes an error through an unvalid page
in module RPCRT4.dll at 016f:7fbd0894.
etc...."

This issue appears immediately after the PDX-logo started
and stops PDX from launching.

Did:

* Reinstall Win98
* Reinstall PDX
* Reinstall SP2

No change!

Any ideas to get rit of it?

I have never seen that module being mentioned in an IPF earlier.

Read through the cases with error: Invalid Page Fault at
http://w1.826.comhem.se/~u82608896/paradox/errors.htm

If you can't find anything that helps in that document, get Filemon and
regmon from www.sysinternals.com. With those two freewares, you can log
all file requests and registry requests being made. Sometimes it will
help to get an idea.

Searching for file RPCRT4.DLL, I found it in WINNT\SYSTEM32 folder.

Try to search Microsoft's site for known problems with that file.

Why do you do step 2? Installing P10 SP2 is a complete new install AFAIK, or
does SP2 refers to something else than P10?

Bertil and Anders,

thanks for the quick reply,
have just downloaded the two programs to evaluate the
processes. We will see if it helps to understand whats goin on behind
the curtain.

Anders, its not known to me that SP2 contains the complete P10
installation. Does it really?

Hi,

got P10 running again by reinstalling it on drive D: instead on drive C:.
But now I have the problem to install SP3 from CD:

Issue:
"Setup has detected that you do not have the correct language
of WordPerfect installed on your computer.
This patch will not continue."

In the P10 install I set the default language to English U.S. (US).
Can somebody guide me to the correct language?

For this kind of errors REGMON can help to find the problem.

Anyway, it could be this key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\COREL\AppMan\10]
"PreferredLanguage"="SV"

But I have seen cases where at least Paradox (installation?) looks in
this key instead

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\AppMan\10]

Did you search Microsoft's site:

SYMPTOMS
When you use Microsoft Outlook 2002 to connect to a Microsoft Exchange
server, you may receive an error message that is similar to one of the
following:
Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close... AppName =
Outlook.EXE. AppVer = 10.0.2627.1. ModName = Rpcrt4.dll. ModVer =
5.1.2600.1106. Offset = 0000e573.
Invalid Page Fault in module Rpcrt4.dll
CAUSE
This problem may occur if you have antivirus or firewall software that
is installed and running on your computer.

SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to start Microsoft Internet Explorer or Microsoft
Outlook Express, you may receive one of the following error messages:
IEXPLORE caused an invalid page fault in module Rpcrt4.dll.
-or-
MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module Rpcrt4.dll.
CAUSE
This issue can occur when your computer contains an incorrect or
mismatched version of the Schannel.dll file.

SYMPTOMS
During Setup, you may receive the following error message:
User32.dll was relocated in memory. The application will not run
properly. The relocation occurred because the DLL
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\RPCRT4.dll occupied an address range reserved for
Windows NT System DLL's. The vendor supplying the DLL should be
contacted for a new DLL.
When you click OK, the following error message may occur:
An error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing. Setup
was unable to initialize network installation components. The specific
error code is 2.
When you click OK, the computer reboots and the sequence is repeated
continuously.
CAUSE
During an upgrade from Windows NT 3.51 to Windows NT 4.0, the Rpcrt4.dll
file may not be upgraded. If for some reason this file is not updated to
the 4.0 version and the User32.dll file is updated to the 4.0 version,
the files conflict in memory. Rpcrt4.dll loads in an area of memory in
which User32.dll tries to load. User32.dll is then relocated in memory
but fails.

Hi Bertil,

thanks for the bundle of information. It will take some time for me to
check all possible reasons :-).

One more place to look in

installation. Does it really?
I clearly remember buying the original WP suite with P10 without any
serviceapcks. It contained some serious bugs and I never used it much. When
SP2 arrived I had to call customer support and order a complete new CD. I
remember this because the new CD required a different serial number - which
I of course didn't get and had to call them again, it took weeks to get
everything going! :(
